12th edition of the world day of the rural woman (continuation)
Food safety targeted through the exposition of the products
The exposition of products was undoubtedly one of strong moments during the commemoration of the 12th edition of the World Day of the Rural Woman in Bangang: nearly two hundred country-women and peasants showcased their ingeniousness in the fields’ agricultural, animal breeding and arts. The three large rooms and the parochial schoolyard of DZONG which hosted this part of the event were flooded with various products, impeccably stocked (presentation in uniform containers or tools) irreproachably classified by type and variety: (onions of consumption very close to onions of seed, and in addition the poultry with share, the domestic animals with share...).
To tell the truth, all the exhibited products were of a certain quality and highly prized. However, it was a question, vis-à-vis with all these wonders establishing criteria of selection applicable to all, differentiating the products from unquestionable quality and to allot the best possible prices to them. With this intention, a multidisciplinary team made up of the picture framers of the rural world (chief of agricultural station, chiefs of zoo technical station, delegated agriculture, agent of popularization and zone, frameworks of development) had to deploy all her professional qualities to appreciate with her right value each product presented. At the time of the handing-over of the prices, this team initially presented the paramount criteria which guided their classification. Among those one could read, on the bottom: the weight of the product in its variety, the maturity of the product, current scarcity of the product in the zone, mode of production (use of manure - and here the use of organic manures was a "strong" criterion).
Results of the evaluation of the products: the women tear off with brilliance the best prices
From the thirty two categories of exhibited products (without entering the varieties), the women obtained the best prices for 22 types of which the onion, potato and potato seed, soya, yam seeds (in the two varieties), medicinal plants with products of exceptional quality and current utility (the artichaud, Tournessol, Artémisia annua). The men were however not in remainder
: the best prices by as regards onions of seed, of white yam and breeding of pig have summers torn off by them. Each person having exposed at least a product received a price. These prices much diversified (biological manure - compost, machetes, hoes, watering-cans, buckets, basins, pickaxe...) were of a value from approximately 350 000 frank CFA. This evaluation made it possible to discover the specific capacities of the women and the men sometimes in the same activities or different fields. The handing-over of the prices created a true emulation and constituted a recognition of the efforts of the country-women and peasants in general, principal supports of the large metropolises of Cameroon, and country-women and country Bangang in particular.
