The OFC enter into the 2008 Campaign

The Orientation and Follow-up Committee (OFC) of the Easter Week Campaign (EWC) met for four days with the Coordination of the EWC for briefing on the training and planning of 2008 EWC activities. The delegates of 11 active OFC from 9 out of 10 provinces of Cameroon made the journey to the Climatic Centre in Bandjoun from 23 to 26 January

The dense program aimed at drawing up a common balance sheet of the activities of the year 2007 and at planning those of 2008, as well as taking advantage of new capacity building modules. Every (OFC) was able to present their 2007 experiences, namely its activities, its difficulties and its internal news life. The Coordination of the EWC also lent itself to this exercise by presenting its balance sheet, both from the point of view of organized activities and training courses offered and of the restructuring that it went through by welcoming three new national organizers. Secondly, several training and briefing modules around the projects to strengthen the efficiency of the campaign on the spot were proposed to the participants. It was first of all a conference given by Professor Kä Mana entitled " programmed Tele mentalities and sexual exploitation: how the media prepare our children to prostitute themselves "which aimed at bringing to light the influence of the media in shaping mentalities. Then, various projects were presented such as the use of Internet to facilitate exchanges between (OFC) or the next publication of a bulletin of connecting the Easter Week Campaign. Also on the subject on capacity building, a training textbook on the use of emails was presented and passed on to (OFC) to allow them to increase the efficiency of their work, and many workshops gave room for an in depth look at the internal functioning of the EWC, in particular on the missions and the frame of action of each of the actors of the campaign, on the basis of five explanatory brochures produced by CIPCRE. Finally, a time was reserved for exchanging on the activities of the 2008 Campaign. Further to the statement of the Handbook and the program of activities of the Coordination, each member of (OFC) presented activities planned for this year. Based on what was learned from training and discussions, the (OFC) were then able to clarify and to adapt their program of activities to be better able to contribute to the objective of local implanting of the EWC which is at the foundation of the work of the (OFC) on the field. More than ever, the main challenge which the (OFC) and the Coordination have to face is summarised under the well known slogan "think globally, act locally ". All the difficulties of such a national campaign, which aims at fighting multiform plagues such as violence against women and children, is to succeed in getting the persons there where they are and according to the concrete local problems, while benefiting from advantages that a national structure as such offers. Such a coordination and training meeting thus showed itself indispensable, and it is what the members of the (OFC) also understood, and did not hesitate to cover long distances to participate in it.
